It's been a while... [Jul. 18th, 2008|02:02 pm]
I am currently safe, sound, and happy in Boston.

My new flat/flatmates are fabulous. I'm living with a Wentworth grad who hits on me, two semi-French guys with good senses of humor, and a grad school student training to be a teacher. We drink occasionally, converse together quite well, and generally get on. Also, one of the French guys saw a man have sex with a goat. Bonus points!

I've been doing part time cash work painting apartments in Somerville, which has been quite useful in terms of having spending money. I interviewed today (in a skirtsuit no less) at a market research place downtown, and got the job! So I'll be making $12 an hour in an office (looks good on the resume) that is not only friendly, but accommodating to my schedule.

Socially I'm right back where I was before I left...it's like my world paused and just hit resume when I moved back in. I've seen a ton of old friends, and made some new ones - I have a date tonight with this fab guy named Brian. I met him at Xmortis because he had some lovely microdermals (and brands). He's a fresh transplant from Hawaii, likes the outdoors, and has a masters in economics. *swoon*

Yep, all in all everything's pretty great. I'm happy here, and feel at home. Finally.

Ramblupdate [Jun. 29th, 2008|05:11 pm]
I'm updating from a bus, as megabus has wifi. How neat is that?

Anyway, after ages of running round Europe, I'm back on the proper side of the pond. I made it to Boston for a whole day and a half, sans luggage that got left behind in London. This worked out in my favor however, since Virgin Atlantic covers $50 a day worth of clothing/essentials while your stuff is gone. I used the money to buy among other things a girly dress for modprom (photos will find their way here eventually). Big props to Vic and Gio, who put up with my ass a lot. <3 Then I spent the weekend in Toronto, to hang out with a bunch of freaks. we stayed in a schwanky hotel, ate fabulous food, drank - a lot (N.B. bottle service at a club is a terrible idea), and had the best prom I've ever been to. It was held at a venue with a treehouse, the food was great (grilled to order steak, sashimi, etc), everyone looked fabulous, and I don't quite think I've seen so many split tongues in one place at one time. I had a ball!

Now I'm on my way to Philly to crash with my adorable mate John, and flying back to Ohio tomorrow. I'll be there for a whole week, and I can't wait to see my family and friends. It's funny, years ago I was so ready to leave the country indefinitely, fighting with my dad, and just in a general state of upheaval. Now I want to see my family, and I'm stoked as hell to stay in Boston for a year. I also think I found a wicked cheap flat, so here's hoping that will work.

In conclusion, I'm doing pretty well. Really well. Hell yeah!

Small update, proofing help request. [Jun. 2nd, 2008|04:06 pm]
I´ve officially left Belfast, and am currently traversing Europe as I thought I would. So far:
London: Put stuff in storage, and am glad to not have to deal with it.
Amsterdam: Brilliant, and everything the last trip wasn´t (last time my tent got kicked, leaked, slept in the campsite toilets, and it rained the whole time. Not so great) This time I couchsurfed with this awesome Israeli translator, who I hit it off with amazingly. we got on like a movie sisters. Went out, got work done in a beautiful library (geekery), smoked a few spliffs, and drank a lot of coffee. It was just lovely and chill. It did rain a bit, but I´m accustomed to that due to belfast. Bring it on weather!
Bus: I´m fairly sure if I had to describe hell it would be the Warsaw bus station. Ok, maybe that´s a bit much, but it was certainly not pleasant in the slightest. I almost got stuck there. meh
Tallinn: Where I am now. The weather so far has been good, sunny and warm. My CS host is sweet and rather quiet, and taking care that I experience proper Estonian food, including a mixture of mixed grain flour and buttermilk, that tastes somewhat like greek yogurt with more texture (it´s actually disturbingly tasty). After I get this paper done I´m going to sunbathe, and tomorrow I´m going to a yarn store.

And, the request for help. So, I happen to have a paper due on Friday (yes, yes I am doing it while I travel. And I am quite possibly, er, fabulous for working on it in Amsterdam. Or lame. Take yer pick). Ie already sent it to my mum for proofing (as she´s the English goddess), but the more eyes the better.

Things I know need work:
Intro and conclusion. I always seem to be terrible at these, and don really know where to go.
Commas. Epic fail.
Generally making sense - it gets better as it goes on, but Ie been doing this in mixed up stages. help me flow (ew, Isound like a hippy)

Thanks if you provide more help than ´Epic fail!´

Half Myspaz crosspost. [May. 5th, 2008|12:58 am]
I am still alive. For the record.

I've 3 weeks left in Belfast, mixed with trips to Norway and Scotland. From there, I'm dropping off my suitcase in London, taking a bus pass, and going with the flow around Europe. I plan on hitting up the Netherlands, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Italy, France, and Spain...at least.

I fly back to the States June 24. I still don't know if I'm on co-op or going back to Uni in the fall. Much as I'd like to know, I'm sure it'll sort itself (with a wee bit of effort). Things will be great regardless. Meyhem when I return, dammit.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I've basically been to lazy to update otherwise. I try and keep my uni blog up to date, but even doing that is difficult. I just haven't been feeling too internety? I do respond to online messages, but that's about it.

I'm still in a very strange place right now, with nothing being sorted. I don't even really know how I'm doing in my current classes...the only paper I've gotten back so far is my contemporary cinema paper (I got an A equiv!) But it's Spring now. I feel like I'm getting myself together. And that things are going to work out.

Also, I did a modeling gig last weekend. I feel silly saying that, but it was what it was. I've only got one photo back, but it's pretty nice. After all those years of threatening to shave my head in punkrawk! rebellion, I do it now for money. Life is funny like that.

[Apr. 10th, 2008|03:34 pm]
The other day I got added on facebook by a bloke named Paul. I met Paul my freshman year, at OJCL. He was in the room next to mine. I wrestled his friend in the hallways late at night, and we played a terrible game of chess. We kept in touch for probably 6 months after, and then just kind of stopped chatting.

So, 6 years later, I'm remembered. And all this comes back.

I drug up my angelfire page from back in the day. It still all exists, my ramblings, stupid quizzes, photos of guys I thought were hot.

I have grown up so much, yet haven't really changed.

For your entertainment, here's the surveys I filled out for the About Me page.
The first answer will be me at 14/15, the second line will be changes or commentary.

Slightly abridged so you might actually read it. )

4 days until I leave Ohio.
5 days until I leave the States.

It's been coming for ages, but now it seems so real. It won't be real until 2AM US time when I'm trying to fall asleep in my itsy-bitsy VA flight, watching House. I've still got loads of packing to do, but I've been working up to it, making a list, then making sure I bought everything on my list I didn't have.

I'm going to enjoy every second until then though, and see everyone I can.

So while I was in Philly, my friend and I were bored. And had both seen Juno. The resulting videos are fabulous covers of "Anyone Else But You." Er, yes, fabulous.

Stolen thoughts on 2007 thing, because I like thinking about a whole year at once.
I'll have to drag out photos later.

I feel so much older, in the real person way. )

Also - Boston people.
January 2nd. Phoenix Landing. Techno night, and my 21st birthday.
Free before 10, $5 after. Partytime!

[Dec. 26th, 2007|03:05 pm]
So far this has been a pretty awesome, low-key holiday season. It's been a week since I got my eyesd one, and they're healing quite well. I've still got some fuzziness, but I can read the second line on the chart! Yesterday I spent in bed drinking tea and watching CSI. I was very pleased. Today we're doing all the "Christmas"y things, with the present opening and fancy dinner.

As is in vogue, the list o' gifts and funness. )
I actually quite like it all.

New Year's Eve is next week, and I think I'm going up to Columbus with Kylie, Amber (eh, eh?) and whoever else would like to come to see Blueprint and more at Skully's.

The rest of the week goes as follows (plan suggestions are welcome):
1st - going out somewhere in Lancaster/Columbus as I turn 21!
2nd - Flying to Boston.
4th - Bus to NYC.
6th - Bus to Philly.
9th - Flying back home.
14th/15thish - Driving to Ada for Shaz's 21st (if you still want me to : p )
22nd - Flying to Boston, onto Belfast.

2008 is going to be wicked.

My dada project for my modernist cinema class. That's awesome. Not for the squeamish.

I am also feeling crafty. If you want some sort of holiday card, email me at victoriaq@ gmail.com, or I'll deliver it in person if you live in Lancaster.

I'm back in Lancaster after a whole lotta shit went down in Boston. Some good (XMortis, friends being awesome), some bad (car accident, no sleep).

I am so going to enjoy watching all the Food Network and Bravo I can handle.

48 hours: My 15-18 page cinema paper is due.
72 hours: My final Highlander edit is due for my editing class.
74 hours: I am due in Northampton, to put my stuff in my aunt/uncle's house.
96 hours: I will be in Lancaster.

Ahhhhhhhhh! So much packing/organizing/writing/editing/making awkward noises to do.

By the way, does anyone in Boston want some free paintballs? I have no use for them. Or want to buy gift certificates to whole foods, dunkin donuts, or starbucks for 10% off? I need to get rid of some $600 school dollars before saturday or they forfeit to the school. And I refuse to do that. Otherwise I'm just going to ebay them.

Off to run the usual errands: Post office, library, selling books to the bookstore, and getting STD test results.

BOSTON LJ LAND [Dec. 6th, 2007|10:17 am]
Hey guys, do you know anyone with a truck or van? I've gotte move my shit to Northhampton either Thursday night, or Friday during the day.

I could rent a Uhaul, but then I have to take the bus back to Boston and it makes time constraints a little crazy.

I will pay the person and for gas, and I'd assume they'd want to drive, but I do have my liscence.

...fuck moving. Rar.

I officially got into Queens today. January 23 I fly to Belfast. That means from the 15th of December thru then (minus a week around my birthday on the east coast) I'll be back in Lancaster.

I'm elated. Combine that with the fact I turned in an editing project I have faith in/am proud of, and the fact that we're having a party for my suitemate's birthday tonight, I'm pretty happy.

I still can't believe the semester is almost over.
